Tarik Rever is a vegan advocate and the spokesperson for Social Bleu who feels being vegan is more than what you eat it is a way of life.
Based out of the US, Social Bleu, this social media app, according to Tarik is “Essentially working together to inspire happiness. We welcome you to try our new innovative app that provides a safe environment for those that want a free space to meet others. Whether you feel too isolated from social distancing, disabled, have anxiety, or depression we welcome you to build true connections.”
I spoke to Tarik about this 3 year-old venture.
Who is this app directed towards?
We developed a social media app that is a safe space for people to experience themselves. We encourage those that are disabled, needing a outlet from social distancing, or those that may have anxiety and just want a welcoming social media platform to meet others. I am disabled myself in a wheelchair so I understand the need to find positive outlets like Social Bleu.
How old is your average customer?
How have you been living this weird time of pandemics and quarantines? And how has it affected your work?
We saw a rise in members because people wanted a emotionally safe option that contrasted from what is normally associated with social media platforms. We produced a commercial that embodied our app to show our innovation. There are still so many parts of the world that is under the stay at home act and during this we engage with our members and ask them to video chat with each the to ease the sense of isolation.
Based in the US, how is veganism being perceived there in 2020?
There are a lot of new ways for vegan products and services to thrive now. There several home deliver companies that deliver fresh vegan foods. I have partnered with some and it is a growing industry. Especially during this pandemic.
Is the local media vegan-friendly or is it still rather hush-hush?
There is a clash. 75% of vegans are women. It is a slower transition for a great deal of the men in America to become vegan. Local media has been nice to me and have written several articles on me and Social Bleu. There are just a few local celebrities that speak about being vegan. I try my best to do my part and ask others to join me on this journey.
Interesting. I had no idea the gender gap within veganism was that harsh. And how do you reach out to your audience? What marketing tools do you use?
We advertise on all the major social media outlets. Really the main thing is that we maintain a strong friendship with our community. Myself and others I’m out company write directly to our members and to organizations and ask them their thoughts. We feel their voices are the foundation of what we do.
As a vegan, do you feel local markets and supermarkets serve you well?
Oh yes we are thankful of the selection in stores. I suppose the only thing is there should be more vegan restaurants.
So how did your vegan journey begin and what drove you to take on veganism?
I have been vegan for 3 years and at one point before that a vegetarian for 8 years. In the back on my mind I kept thinking I should become completely Vegan. My wife helped me think of new vegan options. It emotionally resonates better for me because animals should have equal rights just like us. My health is also better being vegan for having myasthenia gravis puts a big strain on me and being vegan helps some with that.
And I am thankful I was brought in as the official spokesperson for Social Bleu. As an eco-friendly, vegan and equal rights activist I stay in the path of helping our environment. Everything through our community is digital and does not leave a carbon footprint.
